A gruit is a medieval style beer that utilizes herbs instead of hops to create bitterness and flavor.  This darker amber/light brown version uses all local ingredients picked straight from the historic gardens at Strawbery Banke Museum.  The fruits used in this beer includes Reliance Peaches, Damson Plums and Elderberries.  The herbal flavors come from the use of Mugwort, Horehound, Hyssop, Burgamont leaf, Sage and Rosemary.  The resulting beer has hints of fruit and malt sweetness that balance out the slight bitterness and herbal/floral flavors and aromas.
